The 1½-day workshop will assemble together the stakeholders drawn from the following groups:
i. NSF Program Directors
ii. MRSEC Directors
iii. MRSEC Shared Experimental Facilities (SEF) Managers
iv. PREM Directors
v. NSF Materials Innovation Platform Directors
The goal is to discuss best practices and share expertise on the efficient and cost-effective running of facilities in a manner that can best benefit host Universities, the local community, and the nation. This will also be an opportunity for the new MIP Program Directors to explain and refine their facility model in consultation with a larger community of experts.
Some of the intended topics for discussion will include: (i) Facility Management, (ii) User Training, (iii) Working with Outside Users, (iv) Models for Funding Instrument Renewal and Regeneration, and (v) Data Storage, Curation and Management.
Antecedent: The prior workshop of this nature was held in Chicago in 2011. All resources from that workshop can be found at:
